To add details to the library use the following Guide. Reference the image for the numbered callouts used below.

  2. The block callout.
  3. Annotation Leader alignment.
  4. Library Block Border.
  5. Library Block Callouts.

Preparing Detail for Saving

Before the block should be saved to the library, ensure the following items have be checked. These items are Keyes Standards to ensure uniformity across all drawings.

  • Double check that all components are on the appropriate layer for the item shown. (For example all hatches should be on the layer 'A-Hatch'.)
  • Check that the Detail Callout (Item #2) has been changed to that the number is shown as 00 and both the number and title have been bolded. Lastly move the callout so that it will be in the bottom left corner of the block insertion. (Please note the image above does not reflect this as it would cover up part of the discussed text but in the final the callout would be located over top Item #5.)
    • Please note that if you have not inserted the most current callout from the library, please insert the detail, overwriting the current so that the insertion point has been updated to perform the callout relocation.
  • Ensure that all annotations are using the current keyes standards for annotations. This can be inserted into the drawing from the standards block on the library. Double check the annotative tab does not have any relic annotation items for example, KEY_34 is an old way of doing dimensions.
  • Ensure that all annotative items are on the correct scale appropriate for the detail (as noted in the Detail Callout scale). Remove any additional annotative scales that have been assigned to item in the block.
  • Make sure that all leaders have aligned with leaders in the same area along an imaginary vertical line shown as Item #3 in the image above.

Adding Library Template

Once the block has been prepared for the library. Complete the following steps to add the necessary Library Requirements.

  • Add the Library Template
    • The library template is located at Design Center/Annotation/Library Template.dwg
  • Insert the template so that the insertion point is the the bottom/left of the detail and accept the default orientation.
  • Once placed, adjust the width and height of the template so that the template encompasses the entirety of the detail.

Write Block the Detail to the Library

After the above steps have been completed, the next step is to Write Block the detail to the library. For this you will be using the AutoCAD command "writeblock" or simply 'w'.

(The steps that follow assume that the detail being added to the library have not been contained in an AutoCAD block and are instead individual lines, arcs, and other components. If this is not the case or you are not certain, consult a team member to discover what to do with your detail.)

  • Select everything you want to save to the file, this includes the Library Template.
  • Start the WriteBlock (w) command.
    • Click the button next to "Pick point" and select the End Point of the lines that come together on the bottom/left corner of the "Library Template" block. This will be the insertion point of the block during future use.
    • Browse for the folder location in the library where the detail is to be saved by selecting the button with the (3) dots, located at the end of the "File name and path:". ensure the file name is appropriate for what the block contains.
