Leaving or Stepping Away From a Computer

It is not necessary to log off the computer or shut it down.

Do not power the computer down by pressing and holding the power button, as this could result in data loss. This should only be done if the computer is non-responsive, and no other options are available.

The computer should be set to turn the monitors off after 15 minutes of inactivity, with the requirement to request a login upon waking back up. It is not necessary to put the computer to sleep as this will prevent remote access to the computer. See a systems administrator if you need help activating this feature if the computer does not automatically perform this function.

Procedures for stepping away from the computer
